Southwestern College is seeking members of the community to join the Bond Oversight committee which is responsible for informing community members, and the college governing board, about the expenditure of bond process for propositions R and Z, ensuring they align with voter approved projects, and summarizing the committee’s proceedings and activities through an annual report. Voters passed the general obligation bond, known as Proposition R, in November 2008.Proposition Z is the $400 million general obligation bond passed by voters in November 2016.

A new landscape and nursery technology complex is currently under construction at the Chula Vista Campus. Southwestern College has constructed and completed more than $300 in building projects. This year, the college opened a new $66 million Performing Arts Center on the Chula Vista campus and a $29.1 million Public Safety Training Center at the Otay Mesa campus. 

The Citizen’s Bond Oversight Committee meets quarterly in addition to occasional interim meetings to discuss certain topics to make site visits.  Applications for the positions on the committee must be submitted by Friday, Oct. 29, by 5pm.

Members of the Southwestern College community may apply to two at-large community members for a two year term, one taxpayer organization for a two-year term, and one student representative for a one-year term. College staff will review applicants for recommendation to the college superintendent and applicants may be subject to interview as a part of the final process. The governing board will make it’s final approval in their meeting on Nov. 9.
