San Diego County Homeowners have until April 11 to pay the second installment of their 2021-2022 property taxes before being penalized for nonpayment.

Homeowners may pay online at sdttc.com until midnight on  April 11. San Diego County Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister advised residents to log in early and provide themselves time to complete their payment before the automatic cutoff.

“So far, 35% of taxpayers have paid $1.3 billion in second installment payments,” McAllister said. “Property tax bills are due April 11. To avoid a 10% penalty plus a $10 fee for making your payment late, we encourage homeowners to go online and pay their second installment.”

In September, the Tax Collector sent out more than one million tax bills with the expectation of generating $7.6 billion for San Diego County. Property taxes fund schools, libraries, and other services provided by local cities and the county.

Those who pay online will not face a convenience fee for payment using an e-check, or electronic check. Payments can also be made over the phone by calling 855-829-3773 or in person at any of the five locations.

Cash payments are not accepted at any locations outside the Treasurer-Tax Collector’s main office in Downtown, San Diego. Payments sent by mail must be postmarked by April 11 to be considered on time.

According to McAlister, if your lender is responsible for paying your property tax bill,  keep in mind that lenders typically send payments just before the delinquent date. It is recommended to contact lenders to confirm that they have scheduled the payment.

“While we still accept payments at our drop boxes near the entrances of all of our offices, our in-office counter in downtown San Diego is also open. We want residents to avoid the traffic and the wait and pay their taxes electronically.”
