San Diego County health and elected officials will hold a virtual town hall Friday evening to discuss monkeypox as cases continue to increase throughout the region.
In the most recent update from the County’s Health and Human Services Agency, 59 probable cases have been identified as of Wednesday. All of the cases are identified in males.
The virtual town hall will take place at 6 p.m and is sponsored by the San Diego Branch of the NAACP, Urban League of San Diego County, San Diego Voice & Viewpoint, and San Diego’s Black Men & Black Women United. The meeting comes one day after federal officials declared a monkeypox state of emergency to bolster funds and resources aimed to fight the virus.
Speakers of the virtual town hall include:
- Nathan Fletcher, chair of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors;
- Dr. Wilma Wooten, public health officer, San Diego County;
- Nick Macchione, director, San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency;
- Dr. Michael Butera, pulmonary medicine and infectious disease specialist, Sharp Health Care;
- Dr. Jerome Robinson, health chair, NAACP San Diego Branch.
The meeting will discuss information, prevention, and discussion on keeping yourself and your loved ones safe.
