The University of San Diego (USD) recognized the work that three non-profit organizations have carried out during the difficult times of the pandemic over the past 18 months.
The Kaleidoscope Good Governance Awards were presented to the Jewish Family Services of San Diego, Just in Time for Foster Youth, and Border Angels.
Jewish Family Services of San Diego won the award as a non-governmental organization with over $10 million in funds. That organization is the visible representation of a coalition of dozens of groups that help immigrants and refugees in San Diego County, legally, in housing services, physical and mental health, and counseling, among other areas.
The award for Just in Time was recognized as an organization with funds less than $10 million. The civil organization supports young people of higher education age and follows up on their cases to document when the beneficiaries graduate and then find work in the areas in which they study.
The award for Border Angels was in the category of civil organization with resources for less than 500,000 dollars. In a year, Border Angels released more than 100 migrants detained in Otay Mesa who could face deportation or indefinite detention on bail, periodically taking water, food, and clothing to corridors where migrants found that help on which their life. It also helps about 20 migrant shelters in Tijuana every month.
“In light of the extraordinary circumstances of the past year, The USD Nonprofit Institute recognizes three organizations – small, medium and large – for the exceptional work of their boards of directors in providing critical leadership, guidance, and oversight,” said Stephen Chin, Chairman of the Advisory Board of the non-profit Institute.
USD, the oldest Catholic-oriented university in San Diego County, has been awarded Kaleidoscope Awards for Good Governance for 15 years.
