Chula Vista city offices will be closed on Memorial Day to celebrate and honor those who have paid the ultimate price to ensure our freedom.
Although offices will be closed on May 30, public safety services will not be affected by the holiday schedule. First responders such as the Chula Vista Police Department and the Chula Vista Fire Department, will provide services 24 hours a day.
Public Works Department services, including streets and sewers, will be available on an emergency-only basis.
According to the city, trash removal will be delayed by one day. Those who have the collection on Monday will be collected on Tuesday and so forth for the week. Normal operations will continue at the Household Hazard waste facility, which will open on May 28 and June 1 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Memorial Day is a time to show gratitude to the men and women who have died protecting the nation. A monument inscribed with the names of Chula Vista residents who died in war can be found in Memorial Park at 373 Park Way.
The city has dedicated over 92 streets in the Sunbow and Otay Ranch communities with the names of veterans. Community members can also visit the prominent “Walk of Honor” walkway at Veterans Park, located at 785 East Palomar Street. The walkway is paved with bricks inscribed with the names of one veteran, active-duty military personnel, or reservist and their respective branch of service.
